Boreholes (private drinking water supplies)

The Private Water Supplies Regulations apply to water sources such as boreholes where the water will be used for human consumption.

Both microbiological and chemical tests are prescribed within the regulations, your local authority will determine the type of testing and the frequency based on a local risk assessment.

AquaCert can provide all the necessary testing, however, you must provide the list of tests requested by the local authority.

The most common check is a standard drinking water test for:-

  • TVC at 22/37°C
  • E.coli
  • Coliforms

Advice on Taking the Sample

The sample point should be after all treatment, such as filtration and chemical dosing or UV.

The sample point should be run for 2 minutes and then thoroughly sterilised prior to filling the bottle.
