As the established benchmark for excellence and innovation in UK’s care home management, operation, and delivery of service, the 2017 Care Home Awards saw many distinguished firms and companies take home coveted awards.

Guests to the 2017 Care Home Awards were treated to a memorable afternoon. The awards ceremony was hosted by the Royal Garden Hotel, one of central London’s finest awards venues. With enjoyable entertainment from the Sugar Sisters, the Care Home Awards were hosted by BBC announcer Alan Dedicoat. Guests celebrated winners from three Care Home categories – the Overall Achievement, Care Home, and Supplier categories.

Gold Award winners at the 2017 Care Home Awards were the Residential Care Home, Valerie Manor, for Best Individual Care Home. Health and Social Care provider, Care UK, took home the award for Best Individual Care Home, while Neuro-rehabilitation care home PJ Care won the award for Best Care Home Group.

Other notable award winners were Brighterkind, winning the Clinical Facilities Award, NABS Peterhouse for the Garden & Outdoor Space Award, and Equal Arts, winner of the Specialist Provider Award.

Among the prestigious finalists which included prominent companies such as NESCAFE and Active Minds, AquaCert, the UK’s longest serving Legionnaires water testing company was a finalist for the General Supplies, Transport, Soft Facilities Provider Award.

An innovative water analysis company, AquaCert has been testing water samples for 20 years, providing companies, commercial properties, and homeowners simple and cost-effective solutions to achieve water quality. While AquaCert provides tools, resources, and a variety of water testing kits and chemicals, they are most notably known for their Legionella Testing Kits.

Legionella bacteria is the known cause of legionellosis or Legionnaires’ disease. A respiratory disease, Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia transmitted through potable and non-potable water systems such as spas, pools, and cooling towers. Legionella bacteria are also found naturally in watersheds such as rivers, lakes and streams.

Legionnaires’ disease is contracted through drinking contaminated water or inhaling water droplets contaminated with the bacteria.

Immediate symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease are reflective of flu-like symptoms; coughing, headaches, fatigue, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. This makes Legionnaires’ disease difficult to spot and treat as most patients simply mark down the disease due to its flu-like symptoms.

AquaCert’s work in the UK and abroad analyses waterborne bacteria of all kinds, including Legionella bacteria. Their water testing kits are affordable and easy to use, and provide a test certificate once the results have been verified.
