UK mains water is normally high quality with low microbial contamination, occasionally pipe breaks, collapsed sewers etc can render the supply unfit to drink.

Our 'Potable' test checks that your water is fit to drink by analysing it for:-

  • Total Viable Count @ 22°C
  • Total Viable Count @ 37°C
  • E.Coli
  • Coliforms

There are two methods of taking the sample:-

This is the normal method for most clients as the results show the quality coming out of the individual tap ie what their staff and visitors are drinking. If the tap is dirty or contaminated, then the results are likely to be poor; even when the water supplying the outlet is satisfactory.

Post Flush Sample

This analysis checks the quality of the actual 'supply' water. This kit contains materials to disinfect the tap, then the tap is flushed for a couple of minutes at medium flow before the sample is taken. Sampling in this manner prevents local contamination at the tap outlet from producing misleading results.

Once the sample is taken it needs to be analysed as soon as possible. For this reason AquaCert organise the courier collection, we also supply temperature controlled boxes to ensure the sample arrives in good condition

Our testing is done in compliance with UK and EU guidelines including –

  • The Microbiology of Drinking Water (2002)
  • Water Supply (Water Quality) (Scotland) Regulations 2001
  • Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000
  • The Microbiology of Drinking Water (2002)
